1:700 Port dock set N°4 closes the set of four Black Dog harbor parts in 1:700 scale for a display scene.
Responsibility details are not available.
The fourth item of the 1:700 scale harbor range. It comes into its own as the closing piece of the puzzle that brings a scene to completion, or conversely as a starting point on its own if you are still weighing up whether building a harbor setting will take hold of you. In neither case is it a vessel, but the land setting around one.
The ship and the shore have to communicate, otherwise they merely lie side by side. Try turning the vessel so that its bow points toward the open edge of the base; the viewer's eye then travels through the scene instead of stopping at an edge. Keep the center of gravity of the composition off center and lay the masses out unevenly, because a symmetrical arrangement reads as static. It also works to photograph the scene in progress on a phone: in a picture, disproportions the eye overlooks in the flesh stand out.
A finished setting deserves a proper mounting. Level the groundwork so that no unworked edge shows anywhere, unify the sides with a dark shade and frame the lower perimeter with a strip. Bring the light in from one side and rather warm, because cool lighting dries out a gray surface. Dust can be kept off with a cover, which also gives the scene the look of a collection exhibit.
The set leaves the choice of vessel, of base and of display case to the modeler.
