According to the manufacturer's designation the parts are in a clear edition, which with searchlights makes it possible to imitate the lens of the reflector without painting. It is not a model of a ship but an accessory of its own for a kit already bought.
Large binocular observation telescopes were part of the characteristic equipment of Japanese warships. The Imperial Japanese Navy placed exceptional emphasis on finding targets optically, especially for night fighting, and these instruments therefore appeared on bridges and on the platforms of superstructures in greater numbers than in other navies. Searchlights served for illuminating targets and for signaling and tended to be placed on platforms of their own around the funnels. Both are among the details that markedly enliven the silhouette of superstructures in a small scale.
Keep the clear parts clean - fingerprints and dust print through into the finish. Do not use ordinary liquid cement for plastic in places where a clear surface is to remain; a cement for clear parts or a minimal amount of super glue away from the visible surface is more suitable. The body of the telescope and the housing of the searchlight are painted in the shade of the superstructures, while the clear surface itself is masked. It works well to leave the lens of the reflector clear and to back it with silver paint. At the end a fine wash around the mountings will help.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
