A kit of the American fast battleship USS Indiana BB-58 in 1:700 scale, marked by the manufacturer as a Deluxe Edition.
Responsibility details are not available.
USS Indiana, with the hull number BB-58, was an American battleship of the South Dakota class, that is, of the generation of fast battleships that came about at the turn of the 1930s and 1940s. She served in the Pacific in World War II. The main battery was nine 406 mm guns in three triple turrets, and they were backed by heavy anti-aircraft armament spread over the superstructures and across the deck. A compact hull and a densely built-up superstructure make the ships of this class a rewarding subject: there is an extraordinary amount of detail in a small area.
1:700 is the most widespread scale for warships, so the model fits on a shelf nicely and at the same time leaves enough room for fine work. The real ship measured over two hundred meters, so the model comes out roughly thirty centimeters long. The manufacturer marks the item as a Deluxe Edition, which is the name of a particular form within its own range; what exactly the package contains is set out in a list in the instructions.
On a ship model it works well to proceed in blocks: first the hull and the deck, then the superstructures and only at the end the small armament and the masts, which suffer most during handling. It is better to paint the deck and the sides before the small parts go on, because a brush has trouble threading between them. Fine gun barrels and railings will stand up to more if they are fitted only after the base coat has dried.
The kit is supplied unassembled. Paints, glue and tools do not belong to it, unless stated otherwise.
