An injection-molded plastic kit of the American battleship USS Pennsylvania in 1:700 scale from the maker Dragon. The 1:700 scale is the worldwide standard for warship models: the finished model fits into an ordinary display case and still holds enough detail for the layout of the armament and the superstructures to be readable on deck. A wide choice of photo-etched accessories, wooden decks and decals exists in this scale, so the model can be equipped further to taste.
USS Pennsylvania was the lead ship of the American battleship class of the same name. The main armament consisted of 356 mm guns in rotating turrets, supplemented by secondary and anti-aircraft armament whose composition changed markedly during her service. The ship went through several refits that altered the look of the superstructures, the masts and the deck fittings, so with a model it always matters which stage of her service it captures.
Paint the hull and the main decks before you fit the small superstructures and the armament, because afterwards the parts are hard to reach. Separate fine parts such as masts and guns from the sprue with a sharp scalpel and glue them with liquid cement drop by drop. Lay the camouflage scheme down with an airbrush over masks cut from masking tape; hard transitions look more convincing on naval schemes than sprayed-out ones. Railings, radars and ladders in photo-etched brass lift the whole model, but they are work for the patient. The water surface on a base can be managed with acrylic gel and a brush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
