A combined package of accessories for the plastic kit of the battleship USS Texas BB-35 in 1:700 scale. According to the name it holds a veneer deck with pre-printed plank laying and a self-adhesive backing, painting masks and photo-etched parts. The set does not take the place of the kit; it is an addition that is glued onto the plastic deck of the Trumpeter 06712 kit.
Veneer forgives little. The plastic deck has to be flat, free of flash from the mold parting line and perfectly degreased; every bump or remnant of sanding dust is printed through the thin wood as a light swelling. Fill the gaps between the parts, therefore, sand the area with fine paper and wipe it with alcohol. Only then does it make sense to reach for the covering film.
Before gluing the veneer, lay it on dry and check all the cut-outs for hatchways, winches and the bases of superstructures. Then peel the film off in sections and press the veneer from the middle out, so that the air leaves toward the edges and no bubbles stay behind. Use a fresh, genuinely sharp blade for trimming at the superstructures; a dull knife tears the wood instead of cutting it. Separate the photo-etched parts from the package on a hard surface and glue them with a minimum of super glue.
The set is not a model on its own. The plastic kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
