About product

USS Ward DD-139 1941 in 1:700 scale from Flyhawk

A detailed plastic kit of the American Wickes-class destroyer in her form of 1941. Beyond the plastic, this limited version is enriched with photo-etched parts and resin and turned metal pieces, so it offers an exceptional level of detail. It is a more demanding build for more experienced modelers.

The real subject

USS Ward was a Wickes-class destroyer with the characteristic flush deck and four funnels. She entered history on December 7, 1941, when shortly before the attack on Pearl Harbor she sank a Japanese midget submarine and so fired some of the first American shots of the war in the Pacific.

Building and painting tips

The hull can be built complete or in the waterline version. Wash the resin and photo-etched parts, carefully separate the casting blocks and glue them with cyanoacrylate. An airbrush and masking tape are a good choice for painting; the model shows well on a stand.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of warships in 1:700 scale
  • Modelers interested in the history of Pearl Harbor
  • More experienced builders of multimedia ship kits
  • Lovers of the destroyers of the Second World War

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
