This resin detail set from the Aires brand replaces the cockpit interior of the American Fairchild Republic A-10A Thunderbolt II attack aircraft in 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for experienced modelers that lifts the simplified plastic cockpit to a faithful replica with rich cast detail. Sets of this kind are usually complemented by photo-etch and instrument films.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II, nicknamed the Warthog, is an American aircraft for close support of ground forces. It is built around the massive seven-barrel GAU-8 Avenger rotary cannon and became famous for its toughness: a titanium bathtub protects the pilot and the machine can take heavy hits. A pair of turbofan engines high at the rear gives it a characteristic silhouette. It still serves today as a specialist in destroying ground targets.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water and rid them of mold release agent. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw and sand the surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Try the interior dry and fine-tune the mating surfaces if needed; paint the cockpit and pick out the details before the fuselage is closed.
The set is supplied as a resin kit, unassembled and unpainted. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for a plastic kit. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
