An Eduard photo-etched set in 1:72 scale for a model of the A-4E Skyhawk attack aircraft. The metal parts add details to the model that plastic cannot capture in this scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched fret is a thin metal sheet with chemically etched parts. The modeler separates them from the fret, bends them as needed and glues them to the model. Metal holds its shape even where a plastic part would have to be much thicker for strength, which is why photo-etched parts are used for seat belts, consoles, meshes, covers, small panels and loops. In this scale the parts are very small, so tweezers and a sharp blade are worth having.
The A-4 Skyhawk is an American single-seat carrier-borne attack aircraft with a small delta wing. It was deliberately designed to stay light and compact: the wing did not have to fold for stowage on a carrier, which was unusual for carrier aircraft of the time. The A-4E version belongs among the steps that moved the machine toward a higher payload and a greater number of hardpoints.
A photo-etched fret is drawn for one particular kit, it need not fit others, and the type designation does not tell you which areas of the aircraft it covers. Before buying, therefore, check in the manufacturer's instructions which A-4E model the set is cut for and what is on the fret.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by breaking them out with your fingers, otherwise the thin metal twists. Make the bends over the edge of a bending tool or between two blades. They are bonded with super glue applied with the tip of a toothpick; polystyrene cement will not join metal. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal and apply a primer, otherwise the finish flakes off the smooth surface.
A photo-etched set is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
