A plastic kit of the light A-wing starfighter in 1:72 scale from the brand Revell. It is a model of a movie craft from the world of Star Wars, that is a science-fiction subject, not a real aircraft. The model is supplied unassembled. Science-fiction models tend to be popular even with modelers who otherwise build historical subjects, because they offer freer room for painting and weathering.
In the world of the films the A-wing is shown as a light and fast fighter craft with a single-seat cockpit, a pair of engines on the sides of the fuselage and a wedge-shaped plan. Beside the heavier types it comes across as slight, with the stress on speed and agility instead of armor. Characteristic of it are the striking color stripes on the upper surface and the divided panels, which on the model make for an interesting surface to paint.
Lay the order of painting out before the build; with science-fiction models it often pays to paint the inner parts and the engines before the fuselage is closed. Lay the base coat on with an airbrush in thin coats, because large light surfaces will reveal every unevenness. Bring the panel lines out with a thin flowing glaze and wipe the excess off once it has dried. The color stripes are cleaner sprayed through a mask than laid down as a decal, if you dare. Choose the weathering according to whether you want the craft clean as if from the hangar or worn, but keep to restraint, so that the model does not go gray.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
