About product

The real subject

The A6M2 Zero was among the best known Japanese carrier fighters of the Second World War. Demand for it was such that besides the parent factory it was also built at Nakajima, and it is for those machines that this set is listed. The cockpit sits high and there is a good view into it under the sliding canopy, so it is worth spending time on the interior of a model.

What the set contains

The set is made up of colored three-dimensionally printed elements of the pilot's compartment carried on decal paper: the instrument panel with the dials drawn in, the side panels, the seat with its harness and the small cockpit controls. The elements have a thickness of their own, so once seated they stand above the surface and the interior gains depth. The layout is prepared for the Tamiya kit in 1:72 scale.

How the set is applied

The elements of the Quinta QD series are printed on a carrier decal paper and have no adhesive layer of their own. Cut the part from the sheet, dip it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the paper into place. Clear the areas in the cockpit of burrs beforehand, level them, degrease them and go over them with a gloss clear coat of the Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22 type, because an element holds best on a gloss surface; on a busy spot a drop of super glue will help. Do not use a decal softener or setter, as their chemistry attacks the printed resin.

Who it is for

The set is for the modeler who wants legible instruments in a cockpit without the laborious painting of dials. The manufacturer issues separate sets for machines from Nakajima production and from Mitsubishi production, so choose according to the machine you are building. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
