Masking set 1:72 Aero Ab-101 (Peewit)

A masking set in 1:72 scale for the Czechoslovak Aero Ab-101 biplane. It holds pre-cut masking shapes that are stuck onto the model before spraying and taken off again once the painting is finished. It is not a model of the aircraft or a spare part for one, it is an accessory that makes painting easier.

The real subject

The Aero Ab-101 was a Czechoslovak two-seat biplane of the 1930s, used for reconnaissance and as a light bomber. It was a development variation of the A-101 type with a different powerplant. For the modeler what matters is that the crew sat in open cockpits one behind the other, so this type has no large continuous canopy like the later fighters. On biplanes masking revolves around different places: the small windshield, small windows and the straight edges between colors on the fuselage and the flying surfaces. At the same time the structure is full of struts and bracing, around which tape is awkward to lead.

How to use the set

Degrease the model before masking. Transfer the masks, press them down and run a blunt tip along the edge, so paint does not creep under. On a biplane work slowly and in sections, so you do not bend an interplane strut by accident. It proves best to spray from the lighter shades to the darker ones and to take a mask off soon after it has dried. If the model is to get a matte varnish, apply it only after the masks have been removed, otherwise the edge will be emphasized.
