A plastic kit of the Bell AH-1G Huey Cobra attack helicopter in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Kovozavody Prostejov. The Special Markings epithet refers to machines with unusual, non-standard markings — for the modeler that is the most rewarding category, because the finished model stands out from the commonly built examples. Which particular machines the decal sheet offers should be checked against the information on the box.
The AH-1G was the first series-built helicopter designed directly for combat support. It is based on the powerplant and rotor system of the UH-1 type, but has a completely new narrow fuselage with a tandem two-seat cockpit — gunner at the front, pilot behind and above him. It carries racks on short stub wings and a movable gun armament in the nose. The narrow silhouette seen head on is its most typical feature.
Paint the cockpit before you glue the fuselage up. Mask the glazing carefully, since on the Cobra it is large and every inaccuracy shows on it. Spray over a primer. With bold markings the rule is that the base decides everything: apply them over smooth gloss varnish, use a decal softener and overcoat with matte or semi-gloss once dry. Keep the weathering fairly discreet, so that the unusual finish is not lost. Paint the rotor blades separately and fit them at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
