A short-run injection-molded plastic kit of the American Bell Airacobra I / P-400 fighter in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer RS Models. The package contains short-run molded plastic with a finely engraved surface, clear parts for the canopy, a well-worked cockpit and a decal sheet for several operators. This is a limited mold that calls for careful cleaning up and fitting, so it is intended for more experienced modelers.
The Airacobra I was the British export version of the American Bell P-39 fighter; the export machines also carried the designation P-400. The aircraft stood apart through its unusual layout: the engine sat in the middle of the fuselage behind the pilot, drove the propeller through a long shaft, and the machine had a nose gear. A cannon fired through the propeller hub. In service it was used by British, Soviet and American units, among other places in the fighting in the Pacific.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic, open up the locating holes if needed and dry-fit every joint. Paint the cockpit and assemble it before closing up the fuselage. Spray the surface with a primer, apply the paint with an airbrush and accentuate the panel lines with a fine wash. Finish the completed model with a matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
