This accessory set brings 50 mm ammunition in 1:72 scale for completing the scene around an antitank gun. It is not a model of the gun — these are separate parts to be placed by the carriage, in an ammunition box or in the hands of the crew. In scales this small the ammunition in a kit tends to be only suggested, so separate castings are one of the simplest ways to raise the level of detail in a scene.
The 5 cm PaK 38 with a barrel 60 calibers long was introduced at the beginning of the 1940s as the successor to lighter antitank guns. It remained a towed weapon of infantry and tank units practically to the end of the war and also appeared on several self-propelled chassis, for example on a light half-track tractor or on the RSO tractor. Its rounds have a characteristically long cartridge case of 50 mm caliber, which was also used by the long 5 cm tank weapon L/60 of the later versions of the Pz.Kpfw. III. The shorter 5 cm tank weapon of the earlier versions, on the other hand, had a markedly shorter case, so with this caliber the pairing of carrier and round has to be watched.
Cut the castings off the casting blocks with a scalpel, level the faces and wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting. A base coat from a spray can or an airbrush is a must with small parts, otherwise the paint rubs off during handling. Paint the cartridge case in a brass shade and bring it out with a brown wash, and set the tip of the shell apart in a darker color. Spent cases set aside by the carriage and an open ammunition box are details that give a scene movement. Do the gluing with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a small amount.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
