Atom bomb Mark 17 is a weapon accessory from the Black Dog brand for aircraft models in 1:72 scale. It captures a thermonuclear bomb of the kind a single bomber type carried in the mid-1950s.
Responsibility details are not available.
Behind this name stands a weapon object on its own, not an aircraft: the Mark 17 thermonuclear bomb worked up for aircraft models in 1:72 scale. It is most often used in the open bomb bay of a large bomber or as the centerpiece of an airfield scene.
The Mark 17 became the first American thermonuclear bomb produced in a larger series. Thanks to its dry fill it needed no cooling, but it paid for that in a weight and size that practically only a single machine could lift, the giant Convair B-36. It lasted only a few years in the inventory of Strategic Air Command before lighter and more compact weapons replaced it. Its identifying mark remains the massive tail cone with a braking parachute, which was to give the crew time to get away.
Large smooth bodies reveal every unevenness, so before painting it is worth going over the surface with a fine sanding sponge and evening it out with a filler primer. Light schemes come off well when a tone a shade darker is drawn into the parting seams and around the fins. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts: super glue holds even where glue for polystyrene does not take.
The base kit, paints and glue are not supplied with this object and are obtained separately.
