Masks for the Erla type canopy of an Avia S-199 model in 1:72 scale, intended for the Weekend series kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Avia S-199 is a postwar Czechoslovak fighter derived from the Messerschmitt Bf 109 G, and among pilots it picked up the Czech nickname Mezek, meaning mule. The word Erla in the name refers to the canopy: it is a hood type with fewer frames, which gave the pilot a better view than the older, more closely divided version. It is exactly this canopy that the masks are cut for.
The glazing frames can be picked out with a brush or lined with strips of tape, but in 1:72 scale that is work for long evenings and the result tends to be uneven. Cut masks match the shape of the frames and after spraying the edges stay crisp and the frames stay the same width all the way around. The time saved shows on a small model, and the clear part stays free of fingerprints and smears.
First wash and degrease the clear part; on a greasy surface the mask will not hold and the paint will bleed under it. Transfer the mask with tweezers, settle it exactly on the frame and press the edges down carefully, above all where the frame turns. Apply the paint in several light coats, as a thick layer builds a ridge at the edge of the mask that stays visible after it is lifted off. Lift the masks off as soon as the paint has set up and before it cures completely, so that the edge of the finish does not come away with them.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
