About product

Decals 1:72 Avro Lancaster B.I and B.III (Kits-World)

A Kits-World decal sheet in 1:72 scale is intended for models of the Avro Lancaster bomber in versions B.I and B.III. It is a standalone accessory, not a kit: the decals serve to mark a model you already have, or they replace the decals enclosed in the box. Which particular machines the sheet covers and to what extent is given on the packaging; with a large aircraft such as the Lancaster the extent of sheets differs markedly between individual sets, so compare the illustration with your model before buying.

The real subject

The Avro Lancaster was a British four-engine heavy bomber from the period of the Second World War. It was derived from the twin-engine Manchester type and was powered by Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engines; version Mk.III differed from the Mk.I above all in Merlins built under license in the United States, while the airframe was essentially the same. The aircraft had a roomy bomb bay running the whole length of the underside of the fuselage, defensive gun turrets and a numerous crew. In service the machines differed in details of equipment, which is reflected in their markings as well.

Application tips

With the Lancaster the most demanding items tend to be the tiny technical stencils, of which there is a whole series over the fuselage and the wing. It pays to work with smooth-jawed tweezers, to lay the lettering out on the model dry first and to soak it one piece at a time, because a drying tiny decal easily sticks in the wrong position. Never press the tweezers directly on the film but on the carrier paper. Once finished, let the model rest for at least a day and only then clear coat it.

Who the sheet is for

  • modelers building the Lancaster in 1:72 scale
  • those who want to mark a model differently from what the box sheet allows
  • builders replacing yellowed decals from older kits
  • those interested in British aviation of the Second World War

This is a decal sheet, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

Yes, according to the name it covers versions B.I and B.III alike. Which particular machines you will find on it is given on the packaging of the sheet.

No. These are standalone decals. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the package.

Lay them out dry first, soak them one at a time and use tweezers resting on the carrier paper rather than on the film itself.
