1:72 Avro Vulcan B.2 EXPERT kabuki masks

Masking set 1:72 Avro Vulcan B.2, the EXPERT level (New Ware)

Cut masks of soft kabuki-type film in 1:72 scale for a model of the British bomber with a triangular wing. The set is graded at the highest level of range the brand offers, so it deals with more than the cockpit glazing alone.

A large model, small glazing

In 1:72 scale the Vulcan is a big model, but the areas to be masked are on the contrary small and inconspicuous. The cockpit is recessed into the nose and has only a few windows, which makes it a detail that immediately draws the eye on an otherwise smooth, large-area airframe. Irregular hand-cut tape would show more here than on a machine with an extensive greenhouse. The extended set moreover usually covers further features that get masked repeatedly on a large model, so there is no cutting out of circle after circle.

Usage tips

• A large smooth airframe is sprayed in broad passes. Apply the mask before you start on the base coat, therefore, not just before the top shade.
• Both gloss and matte white anti-flash finishes call for a perfect surface underneath. Check the edge of the mask, therefore, before you lay down the first coat.
• When handling a large model, touch the airframe, not the glazing. The mask protects the glass, but it must not shift.
• Keep the unused remnants of the sheet for masking navigation lights and smaller areas on later builds.

Who the set is for

• Builders of large postwar bombers in 1:72 scale.
• Modelers who do not want to mask a large model by hand.
• Those who want to mask further features beyond the cockpit.

This is an accessory to the model, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
