A.W. Meteor NF Mk.14 1:72 - pre-cut masking stencils from Special Mask

This is a masking set of the brand Special Mask in 1:72 scale. It is not a model of an aircraft nor a part of one, but an accessory for painting: self-adhesive pre-cut stencils that are stuck onto the clear parts and onto other places which are to stay unpainted. The result is sharp, straight edges to the cockpit frames without laborious trimming of tape under a magnifier.

Use

• Lift the stencil carefully off the sheet, settle it on the part and press it down with a soft tool, so that it sits all the way round.
• Wash and degrease the clear parts before masking, because on a greasy surface the mask will not hold and the paint will creep under it.
• Spray the paint in thin coats; a heavy coat tends to form a ridge at the edge of the mask.
• Take the mask off while the paint has only just dried, not after it has fully cured, because the edge then stays cleaner.
• The set is cut for a particular model and scale, so before buying make sure that your kit matches the stated version and scale.

The real subject

The Meteor NF Mk.14 was the last of the line of two-seat night fighter versions of the British jet Meteor, reworked for use in the dark and in unfavorable weather. Against the single-seat versions it had a lengthened nose with radar and a longer cockpit for a crew of two, on the Mk.14 with a sliding canopy. It is precisely the shape and the division of the glazing that make masking this version a job which pre-cut stencils shorten markedly.

Who the set is for

For anyone who builds the Meteor NF in 1:72 scale and wants the cockpit frames sharp. It saves time and nerves above all where the glazing is divided up and cutting the tape by hand would take longer than the painting itself.

It is an accessory for painting, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
