A set of pre-cut masks, 1:72 B7A Grace - national insignia with a white outline, from Dead Design for spraying the hinomaru instead of using decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a kit but an accessory for a finished model. The set contains pre-cut self-adhesive masks of the Japanese national insignia in the variant with a white outline. The Aichi B7A Ryusei, designated by the Allies with the code name Grace, was a single-engine carrier torpedo and dive bomber with a characteristic inverted gull wing. Because the Imperial Japanese Navy lost most of its aircraft carriers before the type reached larger numbers, it flew mostly from land bases.
Why spray the insignia through a mask
A sprayed insignia has no carrier film and no glossy edge and silvers nowhere. A gloss varnish under a decal and a softener both fall away, so matte camouflage stays matte. With the variant with a white outline there is the further benefit that both parts of the insignia come out exactly concentric, which with a decal depends on how well it is laid down.
Let the camouflage cure thoroughly. Lay the mask on according to the drawing, press the edges down around the perimeter and smooth the transition with a toothpick. Spray the white outline first, let it dry and then add the red area as the instructions say. Spray in several thin coats perpendicular to the edge of the mask and lift the mask off while the paint is fresh.
