This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard contains landing gear wheels for a model of the Bell P-39Q Airacobra aircraft in 1:72 scale. The PRINT designation means a printed form, which brings a sharp pattern of the tread and of the hub and removes the typical problem of plastic wheels, namely the parting line of the mold running around the whole circumference of the tire. In a small scale it is exactly the cleaning up of this groove without damaging the tread that is difficult, so replacement wheels save time and nerves.
The Bell P-39 Airacobra was an American single-seat fighter with an unusual arrangement: the engine sat behind the cockpit and drove the propeller through a shaft led under the floor. The freed-up nose made it possible to use a nose landing gear, so the machine stood level on the ground and all three wheels are conspicuously visible on a model. The P-39Q version belonged among the most numerous series of the type. On a model displayed with the landing gear extended the wheels therefore do a great deal.
Cut the parts off the support structure with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw and level the cut with sandpaper. Apply a primer before painting. Paint the tire in a matte dark gray rather than a pure black, so that it does not come across as toylike, and finish the hub separately, ideally before fitting. Once dry, dust the wheels and the landing gear legs lightly with a pigment according to the surface the machine is meant to take off from.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit of the aircraft. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
