A small but striking resin accessory from the Reskit brand for a model of the Bell UH-1D utility helicopter in 1:72 scale. It replaces the turbine engine exhaust, that is the part which on the real machine is hollow and thin-walled, while in injection-molded plastic it tends to be solid or only suggested. It is not a kit of the helicopter — the base model is obtained separately. The set is one of the quickest ways to help a model visibly with a single change.
The UH-1 is among the most widespread helicopters in history, and the UH-1D version with a lengthened cabin became its best-known form. The power comes from a turboshaft engine whose exhaust emerges at the rear of the fuselage behind the engine housing. That is exactly the part that is conspicuous in photographs: the surrounding metal tends to be heat-discolored and sooted, so the exhaust is among the places the eye notices first on a model.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and free them of the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the surface by sanding wet with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); cement for plastic does not hold on resin. Fit the part dry and if necessary adjust the opening in the fuselage. After a primer, mix a dark metallic shade, darken the mouth of the exhaust and bring the surrounding metal out with heat tints and a fine deposit of black pigment — work sparingly with the pigment, so that the result does not look artificial.
