A masking set for the cockpit glazing of the Messerschmitt Bf 109F fighter in 1:72 scale. The cut matches the canopy of the kit from Italeri.

The F version of 1941 is usually held to be the aerodynamically most accomplished form of the whole family. The designers rounded off the wingtips, retracted the tailwheel and, above all, did away with the tailplane struts, so the tail was left cantilevered. The armament moved into the fuselage and into the engine shaft, which freed the wing of weight and drag. It was on the Friedrich that pilots fighting over the Channel and over North Africa won their victories, and the machine earned itself a reputation among them as a very nimble opponent.
The canopy of the 109 is short and angular, and the frames are wide in proportion to the glazed area. Every millimeter by which the paint spreads outside the frame shows on the finished model. Pre-cut parts remove that problem: they are laid on, smoothed down, and the paint goes on over them. Under the film the glazing stays free of haze, so the cockpit is visible and it is worth giving it time while the interior is built.
The Bf 109F is built often in 1:72, and on it the difference between a hand-taped and a masked cockpit is visible even in a photograph taken from a distance. The set also suits builders who are only starting out with an airbrush and want to be sure they will not spoil a finished model at the very last step.
