About product

The real subject

The Messerschmitt Bf 109G, established among modelers under the nickname Gustav, is the most numerous version of the German fighter of the Second World War. It came about in a whole range of sub-versions and served on every front until the end of the fighting. The ailerons, the elevator and the rudder of the Bf 109 had fabric covering over a metal structure, so they always differed a little from the smooth metal of the wing and the fuselage. In 1:72 scale this difference disappears on a finished model and the aircraft comes across as if it were made of one piece.

What the set offers

The masks define the outlines of the control surfaces so that they can be sprayed separately and set apart from the surrounding covering on a finished model. The cut is prepared for the Bf 109G kits from Hasegawa in 1:72 scale and the set is a corrected form, that is a later revision of the shapes. The particular shades and the order of spraying are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Masks for spraying the control surfaces of the Bf 109G in 1:72 scale
  • A cut for the Hasegawa kits
  • A corrected form of the set
  • Work is done in paint alone; the plastic is not touched in any way
  • It also suits merely spraying one surface over in a different shade

Building and painting tips

The masks are applied before spraying, to a dry, clean and degreased surface. Press the edges down carefully with a blunt toothpick so that paint does not run under them, and spray rather in several thin passes than in one heavy coat. Take the mask off shortly after spraying, while the finish has not fully hardened, and pull it back over itself at a sharp angle. Choose a fine difference of shade: it is to suggest a different surface, not to divide the aircraft into two pieces.

Who it is for

For modelers who build the Bf 109 in a small scale and want to give a finished model credibility without touching the parts. This is an accessory set of masks; the kit, paints and glue are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

For the Bf 109G kits from Hasegawa in 1:72 scale. With another kit, try the position of the masks dry beforehand; the outlines of the surfaces differ between manufacturers.

The set is a corrected version, that is a later revision of the shapes of the masks. What exactly it differs in from the older version is given in the manufacturer's instructions.

Before spraying, to a dry, clean and degreased surface. Press the edges down with a blunt toothpick so that paint does not run under them.

Shortly after spraying, while the finish has not fully hardened. Pull it back over itself at a sharp angle; the edge of the paint then stays sharp.
