This is an accessory set, not an aircraft kit. Its subject is the cockpit of the Boeing B-17G in 1:72 scale, and the set is meant for modelers who want a cockpit worked out in more detail than the plastic kit provides. On this type the cockpit is glazed at the sides and above, so on a finished model you really can see into it. The set is developed for the Airfix kit, so check which one you have at home before you buy.
The Boeing B-17G was the most numerous version of the four-engined Flying Fortress bomber. It was powered by Wright Cyclone radial engines with turbochargers, which gave it its performance at high altitude, and it could be told from earlier versions mainly by the gun position under the nose. The fuselage was long and broken up, with crew stations spread along its whole length; of these, the cockpit is the one most open to view, and so usually the first place a modeler invests time.
The parts may be resin or plastic, so match the procedure to the material of the parts in the package. Wash resin castings in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a disc and level the surface with a file; sand wet and with respiratory protection. Resin is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), plastic with ordinary modeling cement. Dry-fit the parts first and thin the fuselage walls down from the inside as needed, so that the halves can be closed without pressure. Spray the cockpit with a primer and the base color, then add a dark wash in the recesses and dry brush work on the edges. Finish the instrument panel and the levers with a brush and fit the glazing right at the end, ideally with glue made for clear parts.
