1:72 Bofors 40 mm is a turned metal gun barrel for the Bofors anti-aircraft gun, a replacement for the simplified plastic part on a model in 1:72 scale.

This is not a model of the weapon but a separate replacement part. The set holds a turned metal barrel for the 40 mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun, one of the most widespread automatic anti-aircraft weapons of its day, which appears on a whole range of vehicles and on static mountings. The accessory is made by the Polish brand MASTER, a specialist in turned barrels.
The barrel of an automatic cannon is a slender cylinder, and in 1:72 scale it is a part at the limit of what an injection mold can do. A plastic barrel is made of two halves, carries a parting seam along its length, and sanding that seam down easily loses both the circular cross-section and the correct diameter. The muzzle tends to be solid, or at best only suggested. A turned metal part, by contrast, is perfectly straight, concentric along its whole length, and its muzzle is cleanly drilled, so it shows even on a small model. Strength comes with it: a thin metal barrel does not sag under its own weight or twist, and it survives the ordinary handling of finished work. On an anti-aircraft weapon, which on a model often points upward and is therefore always in view, that is a difference worth having.
Cut the plastic barrel off as close to the breech as possible and true the hole with a drill, so that the metal part sits concentrically and at the right angle. Degrease the metal before gluing and use super glue, as ordinary plastic cement does not hold on it. Apply a base coat intended for metal before painting, otherwise the finish will come off the smooth surface at the lightest touch. Finally darken the muzzle and the bore, which gives the opening optical depth.
