The AN/ALQ-71 version 2 jamming pod in 1:32, one piece. A printed ResKit accessory for American machines of the Vietnam period.
Responsibility details are not available.
A jammer in an underwing pod was so common in Vietnam that a model of an American combat aircraft looks incomplete without it. The set offers one piece of version 2 in a printed version; it captures the characteristic rows of radiating antennas on the sides and the cooling inlets at the nose. A printed version holds crisp edges better than a classic casting can.
The task of the pod was to flood with noise the radars that guided surface-to-air missiles and directed gunfire, or the ground control of fighters. Aircraft flew in formations so that the jamming cones overlapped and the crews gained a way through to the target. The pod was carried by types such as the F-105, F-4, A-4, A-7, F-100 and the reconnaissance RF-101C. Its presence can be spotted in most photographs of the period showing combat formations over the north.
The casing of the pod was usually kept in a simple light or metallic tone with warning lettering; a smooth surface will appreciate a gloss intercoat before the markings are laid on. It is generally hung on a centerline or an inner wing station, which should be checked against photographs of the period for your machine. The mounts on the upper side tend to be a shade darker than the casing.
The contents are a single pod. The aircraft kit and paints are not enclosed with it.
