About product

The Learjet 55C in 1:72 scale (Amodel)

The kit captures the Learjet 55C, that is the later form of the twin-engine business jet of the 55 series. The model is in short-run injection-molded plastic from the Amodel brand. Compared with large-series kits the working of the molds is coarser, but the model holds to the shapes of the real subject, and in 1:72 scale it is a type that hardly any other manufacturer covers.

The real subject

The Learjet 55 line is designated the Longhorn after the wing tipped with winglets. Compared with the older narrow Learjets it offered a taller cabin in which it is possible to stand, and propulsion by two Garrett TFE731 series turbofan engines. The 55C version arrived at the close of the 1980s, and its identifying feature is the additional surfaces under the rear of the fuselage, which improve the machine's behavior in the region of critical angles of attack and its stability at low speeds. The Learjet brand came about in the United States and later passed to the Canadian Bombardier, whose name the box of this model carries as well.

Building and painting tips

Start with a dry assembly of the fuselage, the wing and the engine nacelles and only then glue. Count on filling and sanding the seams, as with short-run plastic that is a standard part of the work. The additional surfaces under the rear are a small but characteristic detail, so fit them to the drawing and check the symmetry. Mask the glazing and paint it in two steps. For a smooth gloss use a filler primer, gentle sanding back and thin coats of paint from an airbrush, and apply the decals over a gloss clear coat.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of civilian and business aircraft in a single scale
  • Modelers who want both forms of the 55 series in their collection
  • Builders with experience of short-run plastic
  • Anyone interested in gloss finishes and precise masking

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The most conspicuous difference is the additional surfaces under the rear of the fuselage, which improve stability and behavior at low speeds. The rest of the machine's outline stays the same.

We recommend it rather to more experienced modelers. Short-run plastic calls for dry assembly, filling and sanding.

The schemes offered are given by the decal sheet and the instructions in the package. We recommend checking with the manufacturer.

It is not a condition, but with gloss civilian schemes an airbrush is a markedly better choice than a brush.
