An injection-molded plastic kit of the famous amphibious PBY-5A Catalina flying boat in 1:72 scale from the Hobby 2000 brand. The package contains plastic sprues, clear glazing and new decals; this version is aimed at the Pacific theater. A masking set for the glazing is enclosed for the build as well.
The Catalina was the most successful American naval patrol aircraft of its class in the Second World War. The PBY-5A version was amphibious, that is with extendable landing gear allowing takeoff from water as well as from land. The machines served for long-range patrol, search and rescue and for attacks on surface targets; their great range made them the eyes of the fleet over the vast Pacific.
First finish and paint the interior and the observer stations, and only then join the halves of the boat hull. Mask the extensive glazing and the side observation blisters with the enclosed mask. The boat hull calls for careful filling and sanding of the joints so that the lines run on smoothly. Fit the engines mounted high on the pylon and the external stores only at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
