1:72 Czech Splinter 7701 - Camouflage Paint Masks For MiG-21 is a DN Models set for the mottled demonstration finish of the Czech MiG-21MF with the fuselage number 7701.
Responsibility details are not available.
On two sheets the DN Models brand supplies the complete layout of the blotches and the national insignia of one of the most striking Czech aircraft. Besides the airframe itself, blotches for the drop tanks are included as well, which is the detail on which the illusion of the whole finish usually stands or falls.
The number 7701 was carried by a MiG-21MF of the Czech Air Force, on which a demonstration coloring made up of a quantity of mutually similar blotches was tried out. It did not catch on in service with a combat unit, but the machine in this coat became a fixture of air shows. The pattern consists of dozens of small fields scattered over the whole airframe, so masking by hand would mean hours of work and the result would differ between the two halves of the aircraft all the same.
The layout is prepared for the MiG-21M, MF and bis variants in 1:72 scale, and it comes out most accurately on the MF version. The original shades of the finish are not recorded in the documentation, so it is advisable to go by period photographs and to choose the colors according to them. Lay the blotches onto an already dried base tone and spray very thinly.
