1:72 D-38 Soviet WW2 Artillery Tank

The Soviet D-38 armored vehicle in 1:72 scale (UM)

The kit captures the Soviet armored vehicle designated D-38, listed in the name as an artillery tank of the Second World War period. The scale is 1:72 and the manufacturer is the Ukrainian brand UM, which has many less known and little widespread types of hardware in its line. That is precisely the main merit of this item: it is a subject you will not meet in the ordinary range of kits. The package contains injection-molded plastic parts; the model is neither glued nor painted.

The real subject

The designation D-38 is among the less usual names of Soviet armored vehicles and appears in period material in connection with developmental and very small-scale designs. If you are building to particular documentation, we recommend checking the subject in your own literature before building.

Building and painting tips

In 1:72 scale it is the cleanliness of the work that decides the result. Nip the parts off with nippers and sand the remains of the gates with fine paper, because an over-sanded edge is immediately visible in a small scale. Glue the running gear in one go and in one plane. Apply a thin cement for plastic with a brush into the joint so that it does not overflow onto the surface. Apply primer before painting, which at the same time reveals any remaining sanding marks. Spray the base shade with an airbrush in two or three thin coats. A wash in the recesses and fine dry pigments on the lower areas of the model add depth, but go easy on them in a small scale.

Who the model is for

• Collectors of less usual Soviet hardware in 1:72 scale
• Modelers looking for a type outside the ordinary range
• Builders of small dioramas and cabinet groups
• More experienced modelers used to small parts

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
