The figure set 1:72 Dacians Before Battle from Strelets-R captures Dacian warriors in poses before an engagement. Unpainted figures of soft plastic in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set belongs to the ancient and medieval line of the manufacturer Strelets-R and captures Dacian warriors at the moment before an engagement, that is, in preparatory and waiting poses, not in combat. It is precisely that which makes it an interesting building element: most sets from antiquity offer attack, this one offers the tension and the calm before it. The figures are of soft plastic, in 1:72 scale, supplied unpainted and as one-piece castings without assembly.
The Dacians inhabited the area north of the lower Danube in the period of antiquity and their appearance differed markedly from the Mediterranean world: long trousers, a tunic with sleeves, a cloak, a cap with a drooping top among the higher layers and oval or hexagonal shields. Characteristic is the curved single-edged weapon and the striking field of a standard. For a modeler that means a different composition of color and shape from the one he is used to with Roman sets, and that even in a small scale.
Waiting poses call for a thought-out layout. They do not work scattered over an area, but in groups with a clear direction of gaze, ideally turned toward one point outside the scene. Before painting, deburr the figures with a scalpel, wash them in lukewarm water with detergent and apply a base primer, which with soft plastic is a necessary step. Paint the clothing in natural muted tones and vary them between the figures, as uniform coloring would look false with irregular formations. The shields are the largest free surface in the set and offer room for simple geometric patterns with a thin brush, though in this scale less is more. Keep the metal parts of the weapons matte, with a dark glaze in the detail. At the end unify the figures with matte clear and a light dusting of the footwear in the color of the terrain.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, primer and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
