About product

Masking set 1:72 for the Dassault Mirage IIICJ

A set of precisely cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the Dassault Mirage IIICJ aircraft in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Eduard. It is not a kit and not accessory parts but an aid to painting: the masks are stuck onto the model, the model is sprayed and once it is dry the masks are lifted off. That does away with the tedious cutting of strips of adhesive tape and above all with the risk of the knife digging into the plastic.

Why on this aircraft in particular

The Mirage IIICJ is the Israeli version of the French tailless delta fighter Mirage IIIC. It is precisely with a delta design that masking has its particularities: the aircraft has no horizontal tail surfaces, so there are not many areas on the model to draw the eye away, and the cockpit finds itself at the center of attention. The canopy of this generation is meanwhile fairly small and divided into several frames, which means a lot of short, precisely routed boundaries between the glass and the frame. Hand-cut tape does more harm than good here, whereas a ready-made mask seats exactly into the framing.

How to use the masks

The glazing has to be clean, dry and degreased before the mask is stuck on. Lift the mask out with tweezers, lay it down and press it down with a blunt toothpick or a wooden stick all the way around, especially in the corners. Spray the shade of the frame first and only then the masking coats for the camouflage. Remove the masks soon after the last coat has dried; with long standing the adhesive hardens and comes away less easily. A soft cloth dampened with water will take off the residue of adhesive; aggressive solvents do not belong on glazing.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Mirage IIICJ in 1:72 scale
  • Those who do not want to cut masks by hand out of adhesive tape
  • Builders of small scales, where divided canopy framing is hardest
  • Modelers who spray with an airbrush and want clean edges

This is an aid to painting a model, not a kit. Paints, glue and the model itself are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. This is a masking set, that is an aid to painting. The Mirage IIICJ kit in 1:72 scale has to be bought separately.

The exact extent of the set is not stated here. Sets of this type are used above all on the glazing and its framing.

The target kit is not stated here. Masks tend to be cut to the shape of a particular model, so check that it matches before ordering.

Soon after the last coat has dried. When a mask lies on the model for a long time, the adhesive hardens and is harder to remove.
