A kit of the Da-42 Dominator unmanned reconnaissance aircraft in 1:72 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer Sova Model. It is a new mold from the end of the second decade of this century. The package contains roughly seventy-five plastic parts and decals for several marking options; the finished model measures approximately 119 mm. The manufacturer describes the set as a kit with a simple build, suitable even for less experienced modelers.
The basis is the Diamond DA42 Twin Star, a light twin-engine all-composite aircraft that first flew in 2002. It is powered by diesel engines with very low consumption, which makes it an exceptionally economical machine. It is precisely on this quality that the unmanned Dominator version builds: thanks to its long endurance it is deployed as a reconnaissance and patrol platform. Besides military use, police and security services have also taken to this category of machine. Characteristic features are the slender wing with a large span, the pair of engines in nacelles and the unmistakable shape of the tail.
The model is small and has a delicate landing gear and propellers; clean the parts with a sharp cutter and try them dry, above all at the join of the wing and the fuselage. Seat the tail surfaces carefully and check that they are square and symmetrical against the front view. Mask the cabin or its cover with tape and glue it with cement for clear parts, which does not fog them. The finishes of these machines tend to be simple and light, so the surface really has to be smooth; before painting it pays to spray the model with primer and sand the unevenness down. Apply the decals onto gloss varnish and at the end overvarnish the model matte or semi-gloss as needed.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
