A decal sheet in 1:72 scale from DK Decals. It is not a kit but a set of waterslide decals for finishing plastic models of the Dornier Do 24 and Consolidated Catalina flying boats. The sheet offers schemes for aircraft of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and of the Netherlands East Indies air force (NEIAF) — according to the manufacturer two options for the Do 24 and six for the Catalina. The kits themselves have to be obtained separately.
The Dornier Do 24 was a three-engine rescue and reconnaissance flying boat, while the Consolidated Catalina was among the most widely used Allied seaplanes of the Second World War. Both types served in the Pacific area on long-range maritime patrol, search and rescue; they were flown by RAAF units and by the air force of the Netherlands East Indies, which faced the Japanese advance in the region.
Apply the decals onto a smooth gloss clear coat so that no silvering appears. Cut out the motif, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and slide it off the backing paper into place. On the large surfaces of a flying boat hull a decal softener will help, drawing the decal down onto the surface and into the engraved lines. Once dry, seal it with a varnish of the sheen you want.
This is a standalone decal sheet. The kits, paints and varnish are not included in the package.
