This item is not an airplane model. It is an accessory set in resin that the modeler buys for a Do-27 kit in 1:72 scale already in hand. Its contents are separately cast control surfaces, that is, the parts that on the real aircraft have hinges of their own and can be deflected. The set thus solves one of the typical limitations of injection-molded plastic, where these surfaces are molded in one piece with the flying surface and their outline is only suggested by an engraved line. The set is intended for the Special Hobby kit.
A real machine standing on an airfield only rarely has its surfaces in the neutral position. Ailerons droop under their own weight, the rudder tends to be deflected and on light aircraft the flaps are often left down. A model with everything lined up flat therefore looks static. Separate resin parts let the surfaces be glued at any angle, which gives the model a sense of movement without your having to carve anything laboriously out of plastic. The second benefit is the fineness of the casting — resin holds sharper leading and trailing edges and a truer skin texture than a thin plastic part.
The procedure is always the same: wash the parts in warm soapy water first, to get rid of the mold release residue from the mold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw or a cutting disc, and never snap them off. Level the mating surface on the model and on the casting by sanding on glass or on a firm support, and protect your airways when sanding resin. It is glued exclusively with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); ordinary cement for plastic does not dissolve resin. Because gaps appear during fitting, count on filling and sanding back. A primer is advisable before painting, as resin holds paint less well than plastic without one.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
