The real subject

The F-100 Super Sabre is an American jet fighter of the 1950s and the first production machine of the US Air Force able to exceed the speed of sound in level flight. Later it became above all an attack aircraft supporting ground units. On a model with the landing gear extended, the landing gear bays are among the places clearly visible from the side and from below, and a viewer notices the color transition at their edge among the first things.

What the set contains

It is a set of masks in 1:72 scale intended for covering the landing gear bays during spraying. The name ties it to the kits of the Trumpeter brand, so the shapes are based on the parts of this kit. The masking holds the edge for you: the laborious cutting of tape in two stages falls away and the edge of a bay stays straight even where it has a more complicated outline.

Building and painting tips

• Apply the masks before spraying, to a dry, clean and degreased surface.
• Press the edges down carefully with a toothpick or a blunt wooden stick, so that paint does not run under them.
• Spray thin coats; a heavy coat likes to tear away along with the edge when the mask is removed.
• Remove a mask once the paint has dried, slowly and at a sharp angle.
• Paint the inside of the bays and the doors before you seat them in the assembly, because in a finished fuselage a brush reaches them with difficulty.
