This exhaust nozzle in 1:72 scale from the brand Reskit is fitted in place of the plastic part on a model of the late F-104 versions. The item is intended for Hasegawa kits. The manufacturer also makes an identical nozzle cut for Revell and Monogram kits, so check which base you are going to build before buying.
It is precisely in the small scale that a plastic nozzle tends to be simplified most, often to a mere hole with no inner structure. The casting, by contrast, carries the petals and the inner ring, and seen from behind, that is from the angle everyone sees in a display case, the difference shows more markedly than on larger models.
The Lockheed F-104 was designed as the lightest possible machine built around a single powerful engine. A thin wing of short span gave excellent speed but demanding behavior on landing. The S version came about in Italy as an all-weather interceptor with armament for guided missiles, while the late rendition of the G version was a European multirole machine built under license by several countries.
