The F-104S is the Italian version of the single-seat Starfighter, which you know by its slender fuselage and very short thin wings. The cockpit is narrow and in 1:72 scale you look into it only through the slot under the canopy, yet the instrument panel and the upper edges of the side consoles stay visible.
Color three-dimensionally printed elements for the instrument panel, the side consoles, the seat with belts and other surfaces of the cockpit. The instruments, the scales and the lettering come finished in color, so painting small details with a brush falls away. The elements have a thickness and relief of their own, so the controls and switches stand proud of the surface. On one sheet you get most of the work that would otherwise take an evening with a magnifier and the finest brush. They have no adhesive layer of their own: the decal paper is a carrier from which the element is slid into place after a brief soak in lukewarm water.
Level the surfaces in the cockpit, take off any burrs, degrease them and coat them with a gloss clear such as Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22; the element has no adhesive layer of its own and holds precisely on a gloss surface. Cut the piece out, soak it for about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water, slide it off the paper into place and press it with a rounded tool so that it settles into the recesses; on broken-up surfaces a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as their chemistry attacks the printed resin. Do not tear off any overhang after seating, but cut it away with a sharp blade. Finish the work before you close the fuselage and fit the canopy.
The set suits modelers who want a legible cockpit even in a small scale without lengthy work with a brush. It shows most on a model with the canopy slid back. The package contains only the sheet with the elements; the kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
