Painting stencils for the glazing of a model of the Republic F-105B Thunderchief in 1:72 scale. For clean canopy frames on the Hasegawa kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set is drawn to the clear parts of the Republic F-105B fighter-bomber from the Hasegawa kit. The cockpit of this aircraft is long and set low between the massive sides of the fuselage, so the frames form a prominent horizontal line. When the line goes astray, it is visible on a model in profile sooner than anything else.
The F-105 was the largest single-engine single-seat combat aircraft the US Air Force ever brought into service. The B version went to line squadrons first. It carried armament in an internal bomb bay, which is not usual on a fighter-bomber, and a single afterburning jet engine powered it. Only a few dozen were built, and in 1964 the American Thunderbirds aerobatic team flew this type briefly before returning to lighter machines. Among modelers the B version is therefore rewarding precisely for its rarity: most collections contain later combat examples and the early form of the type is missing from them.
Set the glazing into the fuselage and clean up the seam before you lay the first shape on. Filler and sanding around a frame can no longer be done after spraying without damaging the edge. Only then spray the inner shade, the camouflage and at the close a clear coat. Leave lifting the shapes off until the end, when the surface is protected.
