1:72 F-14 Alfa probe and angle-of-attack probe is a set of turned metal parts that replaces the small plastic probes on the nose of a model in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not an aircraft kit but a set of small turned metal probes with which a finished plastic model of the F-14 fighter in 1:72 scale is completed. The base kit has to be obtained separately.
The probes on the forward fuselage are the most thankless parts of a whole kit as far as the mold is concerned. They have to come out of the mold, so they have a minimum diameter set by the technology, and they have to survive removal from the sprue, so they tend to be thick. To that is added a parting line that has to be sanded off on a round surface. A turned metal part has none of these problems: it is round, straight and smooth, and above all nothing has to be done to it. The practical gain matters as much as the look: metal survives the handling that leaves a plastic probe broken.
First lay the parts out on a dark surface and try them dry, as small metal parts are easily lost on a light bench. Cut off the plastic originals and level the surface, and drill the holes with a micro drill bit exactly to the diameter of the pin. Bond with super glue applied with a pin, or with slow-setting epoxy if you need more time to align the axis. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and cover it with a primer for metal. Plan the fitting for the end of the build, after painting, decals and varnishing.
An accessory to a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
