The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is an American two-seat carrier-borne fighter with variable-geometry wings. So that both the crew and the equipment can stand operations at great altitude, the machine has a system of conditioned air that pressurizes the cockpit and at the same time cools the instruments. The heat from this circuit is carried away through a heat exchanger, and its outlets on the fuselage are covered by fine grilles.
It is precisely these grilles that this set replaces. In a kit such a spot tends to be suggested only by shallow engraving or by coarse raised relief, because a mold will not hold a finer structure. A ready-made replacement part has the grille rendered distinctly and after varnishing it holds a shadow even at this small scale, so a spot is created on the fuselage where the eye stops. Which kit the parts are cut for is stated in the enclosed manufacturer's instructions. The manufacturer also makes further sets for the same purpose cut for other kits.
The parts are not polystyrene, so cement for plastic kits does not work on them and cyanoacrylate glue is used instead. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and carefully sand the remainder back, so as not to spoil the edge of the grille. Remove the original shape on the fuselage according to the instructions and level the area, otherwise the new part will not seat. Wash and degrease the parts before painting and apply a base coat. The specific preparation procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
A supplementary set is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
