A sheet of waterslide decals in 1:72 scale intended for models of the Japanese Mitsubishi F-15J. It is the second part of a themed series devoted to anniversary finishes. The set serves to finish a model that is already built and painted, and in itself it contains no plastic or photo-etched parts. The real subject

The F-15J is the Japanese licensed version of the American twin-engined F-15 Eagle heavy fighter. It was built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and served exclusively with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, where for decades it formed the backbone of the country's air defense. For anniversaries, Japanese squadrons give one or several machines a striking ceremonial finish that differs markedly from the ordinary gray camouflage scheme. Schemes like these are among the most attractive to model and at the same time the most demanding on accurate decals.

How to work with anniversary markings

Ceremonial schemes tend to be large in area and reach across the fuselage spine, the ventral fins and the air intakes. Prepare the base carefully: first lay down a clear gloss varnish that gives the decals a smooth surface with no pores. Lay large pieces one at a time and with plenty of water under the decal, so that they can still be moved. On curves and transitions use a decal softener, let it do its work and do not touch the film while it is softening. Once it is dry, rinse the surface clean of adhesive residue and unify it with a matte or semi-matte varnish, according to the character of the real machine.
