This is a vacuum-formed clear cockpit canopy for models of the F-4 Phantom II fighter in 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory that replaces the original clear part from the kit. The package offers versions for building the cockpit in the open and in the closed position. The advantage of a drawn canopy is its thin, perfectly transparent wall with no optical distortion, which keeps the frames in scale and leaves the interior nicely visible.
A replacement canopy solves the typical problem of production injection-molded parts: a thick wall and the bottle-glass effect. The open version also lets you display a cockpit worked out in detail. The part is meant for more experienced modelers who can handle vacuum-formed moldings.
The molding is carefully cut off the backing film with a sharp knife and the edges are sanded with fine paper until it seats exactly. It is glued with clear PVA glue or with a small drop of cyanoacrylate gel, so that the surface does not cloud. Before gluing, the part can be dipped in clear varnish for a higher gloss. The frames are masked and sprayed with the interior color from inside and the topcoat from outside.
This is a modeling accessory, not a complete kit. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
