This item is not a model but a set of masks. The self-adhesive film is cut in advance to the shape of the cockpit canopy frames and of the other areas that are covered while spraying. The modeler peels the template off, sticks it onto the clear part, sprays the framing and lifts it off once the paint has dried. On the Phantom that pays off especially, because the two-seat cockpit has two separate canopies with prominent framing and the masks deal even with their complicated shapes for you.
The double-sided version. According to the name the set is double-sided, so it allows for the inner side of the glazing as well. Phantom models are often built with the canopies open, where the inner framing is visible at first glance, so inner masking makes sense on this type. Stick them on before the clear parts are seated.
The Phantom II is a twin-engine two-seat supersonic aircraft used by naval and land-based air arms. The F-4B and F-4N versions served with the navy, while the F-4C and F-4D were land-based versions; the configurations differed mainly in avionics and armament. The type is marked by the characteristic dihedral of the wingtips and the anhedral of the horizontal tail, which makes it one of the most easily recognizable aircraft of its day.
Wash and degrease the glazing, and only then apply the masks. Carry the templates with tweezers and press the edges down with a toothpick. Spray in thin coats, otherwise paint will run under the edge. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, with a pull along the surface. If you want to build the model with the canopies open, spray the inner frames in the interior color before you glue the canopies in the open position.
