This injection-molded plastic kit from the Japanese brand Hasegawa in 1:72 scale represents the F-4EJ, the Japanese license-built version of the two-seat twin-engine Phantom II. It is a special package designated Old Fashion, that is an edition built around one particular color scheme.
The Phantom II is a two-seat twin-engine aircraft of the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, whose airframe is marked out by upswept wingtips, an anhedral horizontal tail and a pair of powerful jet engines. The Japanese F-4EJ version was built under license and differed from the American F-4E in equipment adapted to home service. This designation belongs to the machine in its original form, that is before the later modernization of the electronics that the version with the suffix Kai carried. The type served with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force for several decades and is among the longest-operated machines of its generation.
The two-seat cockpit is clearly in view on the Phantom, so it pays to finish it carefully and before the fuselage is glued together. The classic places for fine-tuning on this type are the air intakes and the joint between the rear fuselage and the engine nacelles, where filling and sanding tend to be needed. The exhaust nozzles have a metallic look of a different color; they look best shaded with several metallic shades rather than one. Special color schemes are sprayed over an even primer, so that the color comes out cleanly. Spray a gloss varnish before the decals, and once it has dried go over it with a matte or semi-gloss one, according to the look you want.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
