The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is an American twin-engine fighter with a crew of two seated in tandem. The F-4J version served with the Navy and the Marine Corps, while the F-4S came from upgrading F-4J aircraft. Both cockpits are full of instruments, and in 1:72 scale this is a section that can only be drawn out with a brush with a great deal of patience.
The set brings colored 3D-printed interior elements with relief, that is the instrument panels of both stations, the side consoles and other surfaces of the cockpit. The elements are printed on decal backing paper and are applied by the wet method. The part is cut from the sheet, soaked in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the paper into place. It has no adhesive layer of its own and holds on gloss varnish. Do not use a decal softener or a decal setter, as they would attack the printed resin. The set is prepared for the F-4J and F-4S kits from Hasegawa in 1:72 scale.
Paint the cockpit in the base shade, let it dry thoroughly and coat it with gloss varnish. Dip the cut-out part in lukewarm water, slide it off the backing paper into place and adjust its position with a soft brush while the element is still wet. Then soak the water up and press it down with a soft bud from the center outwards. In the small scale work in good light and preferably with a magnifier, as the elements are tiny and crease easily when handled repeatedly.
The set suits modelers who build the Phantom in the small scale and do not want to give up on a fully drawn two-seat cockpit. The package contains the interior elements only; the model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
