Aires F-84G Thunderjet detail set 1:72 (comprehensive resin set)

This is not an airplane model but a fairly extensive Aires resin accessory set in 1:72 scale. A detail set usually brings together several areas of refinement at once, typically the cockpit and other compartments of a plastic kit of the Republic F-84G Thunderjet jet fighter. The aim is to raise the fidelity of the finished model markedly. The set is meant for more experienced modelers.

The real subject

The Republic F-84 Thunderjet was an American jet fighter and fighter-bomber of the early 1950s. The F-84G version had a straight wing and equipment for refueling in flight, and it was committed to action in the Korean War as well.

Building and painting tips

Work through it subassembly by subassembly. Wash the resin parts to remove the mold release agent, cut off the casting blocks and bond them with super glue. Where inner compartments are opened up, a section of skin on the kit has to be cut out. Bring the details out with a wash and a dry brush.
