The core of the package is a model of the Wespe self-propelled howitzer with the designation Sd.Kfz. 124; the whole range is conceived so that the finished model does not end up on a bare board but straight away in a small scene. The scope of the package differs between the sets of this range, so check the contents on the box of the particular set.
The Wespe was a German self-propelled howitzer built on the chassis of the Panzer II light tank. A light field howitzer of 10.5 cm caliber was installed in the rear of the vehicle, protected by an open-topped superstructure of thin plate. The vehicle was not meant for direct combat in the front line: its task was to get an artillery piece to a firing position quickly and leave it just as quickly. It is precisely the open superstructure and the markedly raised rear that give the Wespe a silhouette you will not confuse with anything else.
In 1:72 scale the parts are small, so separate them with nippers and clean them up with a file rather than with a knife used dry. The fighting compartment of the superstructure is open at the top on the real subject, so paint and weather it before you close the superstructure up; you will not get in there later. Do not skip the primer, as every thin coat shows on a small model. Bring out the details with a dark wash and a dry brush; when building the scene, work from the bottom up, that is, the terrain first, then the vegetation and finally seating the model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
