The Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind anti-aircraft vehicle with the quadruple 2 cm Flakvierling 38 gun in 1:72 scale is a plastic kit from the manufacturer UM.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of a German anti-aircraft tracked vehicle of the Second World War period, built on the chassis of the Panzer IV medium tank. The armament consists of a quadruple automatic gun of 2 cm caliber designated the Flakvierling 38 in an open turret. The model is in 1:72 scale, that is, in a compact format suitable for a collection and for smaller dioramas alike.
The Wirbelwind came about by modifying the chassis of the Panzer IV medium tank, on which an open multi-sided superstructure with anti-aircraft armament was mounted in place of the usual turret. The quadruple assembly of 2 cm guns was chosen for its high rate of fire against low-flying targets. The pairing of vehicle and weapon therefore corresponds to the real subject: the Flakvierling 38 is exactly the armament this type carried.
With this type the open turret is both the main attraction and the pitfall: everything inside is visible, so finish and paint the gun, the seats and the walls of the superstructure before closing the assembly up. The four thin barrels are the most fragile parts of the whole kit, so fit them right at the very end. It is practical to paint the running gear and the tracks separately. In 1:72 scale thin coats of paint and finer weathering than you would give a larger model are enough - a heavy wash would pull the detail down.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
